Comparing the service effects on HIV intervention among commercial sex workers in Simao County

Objective In order to take full advantage of limited health resource, to explore the effective way of HIV services for female commercial sex workers (FCSWs) and evaluate the effectiveness of the project. Methods To compare the awareness rate of HIV knowledge, the information resource and status of service receiving between the baseline survey and comprehensive surveillance among the FCSWs. Results After the implementation of Global Fund AIDS Program Round 4, the awareness rate of HIV knowledge, the information resource and status of service receiving among the FCSWs were higher in 2007 than 2005. And the services of HIV/STDs counseling and STDs testing treatment were lower in 2007 than 2005.Conclusion With the project implementation, the cross-sector communication and cooperation have been improved; by the platform of Women Health Center, developing the comprehensive activities, including out-reach, peer education, VCT, STDs management and referral, condom promotion have had obvious effect. The VCT and standardized STDs management services should be improved further.
