HIV testing results among the drug users in detoxification settings in Tengchong County
Objective To learn about the HIV epidemic situation among the drug users in detoxification settings, and to provide the evidence to develop the HIV/AIDS prevention among the drug users. Methods Conducting HIV anti-body testing among the drug users in the compulsive detoxification settings during 2004-2006, and analyzing the results. Results In total 1618 drug users tested, 114 cases are antibody positive, with the prevalence of 7.05%. Amongst the 371 injecting drug users and 1247 oral drug users, the positive numbers are 74 and 40, and prevalence rate reach 7.05% and 3.21% respectively. Conclusion: Oral drug using is the major means in Tengchong. In this medium HIV prevalence area, it is inevitable to prevent the HIV transmission among the drug users and strengthen the education and behavior intervention for them.
